Speaking True: Ron Quixote

In the past few years, I've been writing an online saga of Ron Quixote. Yes. And his sidekick, Sancho pug. Yes, a pug on a donkey.

I've been telling that story partly because, to be honest, one of my mentors said I should just make an ass of myself, because the faster I do that, the faster I can get on with the business of living life fully. Making fun of myself as Ron Quixote, who periodically goes off and takes on windmills in the dark of the night, or runs down paths that lead to nowhere.

It's really humanizing. It's really right-sizing. It allows me to get on with the business of navigating this world. It also happens to be pretty funny. Actually, so funny that a friend of mine, got a photo and clipped me and a pug into an image of the original Don Quixote.

Why am I even talking about this?

There's a deal in the recovery world called Rule 62. It's pretty simple. Don't take yourself too damn seriously.

That's a really life changing principle that we can all benefit from. And sometimes it's helpful to just make an ass of ourselves and admit, sometimes we do some crazy stuff.

You can pass that on as wisdom from Ron Quixote and Sancho Pug.
