Speaking True: You Can't Hide a Light Under a Basket

At the time of this recording, it's April, the month of blossoming, where things just burst forth. Now, if you happened to listen to last month’s video (click here to listen), we talked about what it takes to have a breakthrough, an amazing grace moment where suddenly we change course. That's related to this idea of blossoming because when we finally have an interior shift, things begin to pour forth. Because we're changed on the inside, our outsides begin to change as a result. The result of that is an ability to act differently in the world.

There's a great scripture for this, if you're into Christian scripture, and that is that you can't hide a light under a basket, which is such a great visual metaphor. Imagine, a woven basket, and there's a light on the inside, and the light goes where the light goes. It just can't not get out.

Well, that's what it is for us to be transformed on the inside. It all pours out as a result.

Now, the key point for us is, if you're not pouring forth that light, if you're not blossoming, if you're not thriving, then the question is always, what's preventing that? What's the barrier? And here's a real secret. The barrier is rarely on the outside. Sometimes it may be, but invariably, it's an inside limiter, something that prevents us from showing forth whatever it is we feel like we want to bring into the world.

So if I were you, if I were me, if I were anyone, my first question is, am I producing the blossoming that I think I want or need? And if not, what is it inside me that is limiting that light going where it needs to go beyond me? It's a great line of inquiry. Oftentimes it produces some really interesting findings, and then the result is, there it goes. That's a beautiful thing.
